Confession #20 aka Wrapping It Up!

ImageChef.com - Custom comment codes for MySpace, Hi5, Friendster and more

This has been quite an amazing journey. I'm proud of myself. I actually finished something. I patted myself on the back for actually doing each exercise.

I'll have to say that out of this entire exercise, I loved Library Thing the most. I visit that site nearly everyday and look for new ways to explore and have fun with the books I've read or own.

Throughout this learning process, I've developed a closer relationship with Google. It's one I love. That's a web site I definitely visit everyday. Right up there with Google and Library Thing would be my Google Reader. I've subscribed to several feeds that have yet to disappoint me. When I can have fun learning, I don't mind learning. That was where my play factor came in with my lifelong learning plan. I wanted to learn to play in order to learn and have fun. And I've certainly accomplished that.

Should another discovery process like Maryland 23 Things pop up again, I know that I'd be more than happy to participate. You can never have too much fun!

I appreciate the opportunity that has been extended to us to learn about all this cool stuff that's been surfacing in our world right under our noses. I'm now eager to share my expertise!

I am now finished Maryland 23 Things!!!

Confession #19

I checked out Project Gutenberg and was surprised at the amount of titles they had that I could recognize. I saw alot of classics that I definitely see myself listening to sometime soon. I know I'll go for my classic favorites like The Wizard of Oz or Alice in Wonderland. Or even Aesop's Fables.
I've never taken the time to listen to a book before. But they seem to be becoming really popular. I'm going to have to try it out sooner or later.

Confession #18

Who would have thought that something as small like a podcast would be entertaining? I honestly thought there were only podcasts going around about "important" stuff. I guess I was wrong. I found some entertaining podcasts to listen to. So, the world really is filled with new and exciting things.
What seems to be most useful is that they actually have podcasts about current events. News, people's opinions and things like that. I suppose that when one is located that puts the focus on information you desire to know, it can be very entertaining.

Confession #17

I think I may have kind of sorta quite possibly already accomplished this. I have an earlier post titled "A Little About Me" with a video from YouTube that I posted. But I assumed it couldn't hurt to post another one. I find it a little less harmful to my innocent eyes to type in what I'm looking for, as opposed to searching through everything that everyone posts on YouTube.
If the library were to use the same tactics as youtube, I suppose on our website we would be able to host video trainings and things of that sort. Maybe even a live chat type of thing. It could be useful.

Confession #16

I posted two widgets from yourminis on my blog. A lovely purple calculator is all the way down the bottom. And a gorgeous digital clock is to the right.

From the list of Web 2.0 winners, I picked yourminis which won first place for widgets. The website was really easy to navigate through, my laughter from such odd names helped me along.

There were some very useful widgets. I mean, there were some weather, clocks, news, and email widgets that can be of great use to someone who wants the information, without actually having to go look for it elsewhere.

Sweet instant gratification...it will never go away.

The only thing is, I don't see widgets being of much use in a public library. Unless they were somehow cleverly posted on the homepage of our website. I suppose a little weather or news widget would be kind of cool...

Confession #15

Everyday I discover that as hard as it is for us to accept, we simply can not know everything. But we can know mostly everything :-)

Just a heads up for those entering into week 8, thing 18... Unless you love signing up for stuff, I wouldn't want to discourage anyone, but, having set up email accounts through google, we already have access to Google Docs. So, one less thing to sign up for. Just thought I'd mention it.

Now I've already given Google.com rave reviews. So needless to say, that's where I experimented. I already mentioned this in a previous blog, but Google is becoming the only website I visit when I get online. I stay up to date with the rss accounts I'm subscribed to by using Google Reader.

Most Documents that I'd like to read over when I'm at the library, I've uploaded from my personal laptop notebook using Google Documents.

I use nearly everything on Google.
Here is a link to a document I've published using Google Docs.

I hope it works. I also hope I'm not the only one who enjoys the many things that Google allows us to use.
